Our education law practice is led by attorney Joel Hand, who previously held a secondary education teacher’s certification in Indiana. Hand Ponist can provide legal services to educators, administrators, students, and parents of students.
For example, Hand Ponist can assist parents and students with physical or learning disabilities in securing the right of Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) guaranteed to all children in the United States by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Individuals with Educational Disabilities Act (IDEA). For example, we can assist with assuring that students are provided with appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under IDEA or plans under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (504 Plans), including representation in hearings and appeals.
Some of the other services we provide are:
- Representing students in hearings and appeals of disciplinary matters, including suspension and expulsion.
- Representing educators in hearings and appeals related to licensing suspensions, revocations, and reinstatements.
- Advising and representing school corporations, boards, and administrators in various legal matters.
